The Independence Visitor Center, located in Independence National Historic Park across the street from the Liberty Bell, is a popular destination for many tourists visiting Philadelphia. In conjunction with a building addition and renovations, SALT designed renovations to the exterior landscape and to the Visitor Center interior.
Exterior site improvements include new and replacement plantings along the eastern side of the building, new building access, additional seating, and a reduced maintenance, four-season planting scheme. To enhance the indoor visitor experience, SALT developed an interior ‘winter garden’ that includes canopy trees in large planters and special lighting throughout the café space, and streamlined signage to improve wayfinding and circulation within the building.
